Here in Staffordshire we are very much committed to giving children and young people with SEND the best support. Therefore from September this year, there will be a sustainable and seamless service for people from birth right up until the age of 25, enabling children and young people to access the right support at the right time
An introduction to SEND Reforms
Due to the recommended amends to the Children and Families Bill, there will be some significant changes to the existing system and ways of working with children and young people with special educational needs and disability.
The changes will mean that we will move away from the current paper based system and create a more personal approach where children and young people along with their families are placed at the centre of everything we do. Where previously families have completed more than one assessment for services such as Health, Social Care and Education, they will now go on to work together more effectively so that one form covers all – meaning that families won’t have to repeat themselves at every stage of the process.
We are also working on developing our Local Offer – which will house accessible and centralised information, advice and guidance on support and options available for children and young people with SEND. This will also be available from September through our current Staffordshire Cares website.
