Welcome to the summer edition of ‘My Staffordshire Extra’, your e-magazine, bringing you all the latest news and happenings from across our great county.
In this issue… read about our Treated Badly campaign launched to raise awareness of domestic abuse among young people and developed in partnership with them. Watch our videos directed and performed by local teenagers, or test yourself with our online checker to help understand if your relationship is healthy.
Last month, we celebrated Foster Care Fortnight focusing on our urgent need for more foster carers to come forward. Our roadshows rolled into towns across the county giving people the chance to
talk to real foster carers about their experiences. You can watch a video about how fostering changed the lives of foster carers Richard and Liz and Kay who they looked after. Also you can find out more about fostering at www.staffordshire.gov.uk/fostering. And if you are already a parent and have a two year old, did you know that you might be able to have 15 hours free childcare per week? Time you could use to help yourself back into work or learn a new skill. Thousands of people have already benefited from the scheme and you can find out more at Think2.
If you’re a bus user, we’re making changes to make bus travel easier, and if you’re not, you may be once you’ve seen our new online Bus Travel Planner and Real Time Passenger Information coming soon! Now you should know when your next bus will arrive…
History buffs like myself might be interested to know that the discovery of Staffordshire hoard will be celebrating its 5th anniversary in July. Find out what’s planned or where you can see it for yourself. Watch out also for the Discovering the Staffordshire Hoard exhibition, which is also touring the region over the next year.
There’s lots going on all over our county, only some of which we’ve managed to feature here, but it gives you a taster of the fantastic events and community spirit that’s alive and well in Staffordshire.
