Olivia Wilce – Business Administrative Apprentice
I started out at Staffordshire County Council in July, and I had initially applied for an apprenticeship in finance, but took up Vicky on her offer to be her apprentice on the Open Door scheme.
Open Door is such a brilliant scheme, as it not only caters for a wide range of people in Staffordshire, but it runs separate projects such as VTalent which is aimed at disadvantaged young people, by offering them a placement through Open Door Staffordshire along with support in training and recruitment.
The candidates may be hoping to achieve a job via gaining skills and experience or developing an interest in a career path. You also get to apply for council only jobs!
I really think that this scheme is so beneficial for young people who haven’t had the best start in life, or just need a boost into deciding what they want to do with their future. Given the lack of job opportunities for young people these days, it’s becoming so easy to not try and achieve, but with schemes like Open Door and VTalent it can offer you a taster into what some careers would be like before you invest thousands in university courses etc.
